In January 2024, we welcomed back one of Oasis’ founders, Caroline Kornfield Roberts, as Special Projects Director, who significantly expanded our pro bono partnerships and development capacity.

In June, we launched our Pro Bono LGBTQ+ Asylum Declarations Project. Through this project, teams of attorneys from partner law firms received comprehensive training on trauma-informed interviewing and how to support clients in telling their story. Volunteer attorneys were able to support a dozen asylum seekers in completing an important document in support of their legal case.

“I truly enjoyed the experience volunteering with Oasis on the declaration project. I felt well prepared to work with my client and felt supported by Oasis when I reached out for guidance. I hope that the work I did will allow Oasis to help more people and will help my client gain asylum.” - Briana Mittleman

We also continue to partner with pro bono attorneys through our Asylum Representation and Naturalization Representation Projects, whereby attorneys prepare queer and trans asylum seekers for and represent them at their hearings. Oasis manages two pro bono research projects through which pro bono attorneys conduct extensive country conditions research to support asylum seekers claims and research legal case precedent to support attorneys nationwide who are working with LGBTQ+ asylum seekers.

Through these critical projects, pro bono legal advocates donated over 1,300 hours of legal work in 2024!

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
