Summer 2025 LGBTQ+ Asylum Law Legal Internships

Oasis is currently looking for law student interns for the 2025 summer who are passionate about immigrants’ rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and providing legal services to underrepresented communities. Although prior knowledge of immigration or asylum law is not necessary, it is a plus. Legal staff will train interns on the relevant law and procedure, and will supervise interns closely. Interns are eligible for a $7500 stipend for their work during summer made possible by the State Bar of California Legal Services Trust Fund Commission’s (LSTFC) Legal Aid Leaders Fellowship Grants.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with LGBTQ+ asylum applicants under direct attorney supervision

  • Help fill out immigration forms and work on drafting client declarations

  • Research relevant law and country conditions documentation

  • Represent clients at administrative hearings under attorney supervision

Qualities sought:

  • Law students or law graduates with a commitment to immigration and LGBTQ+ issues

  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal audiences

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Knowledge of Spanish or other language apart from English

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with a high level of professionalism

  • Excellent initiative and organizational skills for independent work

  • Commitment to social justice

  • Ability to work with people who have experienced trauma and persecution

  • A minimum commitment of two months over the summer is required. Interns will work a hybrid schedule from our Oasis Berkeley or Fresno Office. Formal externships are welcomed.
