Summer 2025 LGBTQ+ Asylum Law Legal Internships
Oasis is currently looking for law student interns for the 2025 summer who are passionate about immigrants’ rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and providing legal services to underrepresented communities. Although prior knowledge of immigration or asylum law is not necessary, it is a plus. Legal staff will train interns on the relevant law and procedure, and will supervise interns closely. Interns are eligible for a $7500 stipend for their work during summer made possible by the State Bar of California Legal Services Trust Fund Commission’s (LSTFC) Legal Aid Leaders Fellowship Grants.
Responsibilities:
Work with LGBTQ+ asylum applicants under direct attorney supervision
Help fill out immigration forms and work on drafting client declarations
Research relevant law and country conditions documentation
Represent clients at administrative hearings under attorney supervision
Qualities sought:
Law students or law graduates with a commitment to immigration and LGBTQ+ issues
Excellent communication skills, including ability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal audiences
Excellent writing skills
Knowledge of Spanish or other language apart from English
Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment with a high level of professionalism
Excellent initiative and organizational skills for independent work
Commitment to social justice
Ability to work with people who have experienced trauma and persecution
A minimum commitment of two months over the summer is required. Interns will work a hybrid schedule from our Oasis Berkeley or Fresno Office. Formal externships are welcomed.
