Oasis Community Rallies Against Proposed Rules Dismantling Asylum

On July 15th, Oasis submitted our formal comment to the federal government detailing how the proposed rules dismantling the current asylum system would endanger the lives of LGBTQ+ immigrants from around the world. These changes pose a direct threat to those who are already among the most vulnerable, potentially forcing them back to countries where they face persecution, violence, and even death.

In just 10 days, our incredible community responded quickly to our call, submitting over 300 individualized comments in opposition to the rules. This swift action underscores the deep concern and solidarity within our community. Nationwide, over 86,000 comments were submitted, reflecting widespread disapproval and highlighting the critical importance of preserving a fair and humane asylum system.

In addition, more than 900 Oasis community members signed onto this letter that will soon be circulated to members of Congress, urging them to act now to save asylum.

A huge thank you to our community partners TurnOUT and Gaylesta for rallying their members and helping us to spread the word! Together, we are standing up for justice and ensuring that the voices of LGBTQ+ immigrants are heard loud and clear.

We are deeply grateful for the resilience and commitment of our community. Your engagement and advocacy are crucial in our ongoing fight to uphold the rights and dignity of asylum.
