Meet Our 2024 Paralegal Interns
Oasis hosts undergraduate paralegal interns during fall and spring semesters. Paralegal interns work directly with our clients under legal representative supervision to help prepare asylum applications. They also assist our staff, law student interns and pro bono representatives as interpreters.
Meet our current Paralegal Interns, Monica Diaz, Grady De Paz, and Fatima Campos.
Monica is a first-generation college student attending the University of California Berkeley. She is originally from southern California, specifically the Orange County area. She is an interdisciplinary studies major with a minor in human rights. She hopes one day to attend law school and practice immigration, environmental, or family law in the future and serve underrepresented communities. She has been doing research for over a year now through the social sciences research pathways at UC Berkeley under a PhD student, where their main focus is Guatemala and the violence women experience, as well as what type of support they receive. At school, she is also involved at the student advocates office as an academic caseworker, where she supports students on campus with grade appeals, dismissal & probation, and academic and student conduct. She enjoys exploring cafes and gardens, painting, and watching Disney movies in her free time.
Grady is a rising senior at Sonoma State University, majoring in Kinesiology and Lifetime Physical Activity. As a first-generation student, she is passionate about learning more about legal work and believes in Oasis's mission to support LGBTQ+ immigrants with legal services in vulnerable communities. In her downtime, Grady enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and exploring new places in the Bay Area.
Fatima is a Bay Area native. She graduated from San Francisco State University in the spring of 2024 with a double major in Criminal Justice Studies and Latino/a/x Studies. As a first-generation daughter of Mexican immigrants, she is aware of the barriers to resources and basic needs. She is passionate about advocating for immigrants’ rights. Fatima's first legal internship was with Human Rights First, where her passion for helping marginalized groups through the asylum process grew. She is ecstatic to have received the paralegal internship at Oasis as an opportunity to expand her legal knowledge and contribute to helping LGBTQ+ immigrants. She will take these experiences and skills with her to the next stop on her journey in the legal field. She hopes to continue to make a positive impact by serving underserved communities. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, working out, being outdoors, and spending time with her pup, family and friends.
If you are an undergraduate student interested in a paralegal internship, please email a resumé and cover letter to paralegalintern@oasislegalservices.org. We partner with schools to offer course credit to undergraduate students interning with us.
