Oasis Honored with ACLU Chapter Award
In recognition of Oasis Legal Services’ life-saving work and advocacy for LGBTQ+ immigrants seeking asylum, ACLU’s NorCal Paul Robeson Chapter awarded us the Grover Dye Civil Liberties Activism Award. This award is named in honor of Grover C. Dye Sr. who was a lifelong civil rights activist and worked alongside Malcom X throughout the Civil Rights Movement. He remained an active board member for the ACLU NorCal Paul Robeson Chapter until his passing in 2015.
The Paul Robeson Chapter annually presents this award to organizations like Oasis, whose work exhibits the values of equity and inclusion that Grover C. Dye Sr. championed throughout his life. Oasis’ Executive Director, Caroline Roberts, and Board Member (and former client), Jessy D’Santis, attended the award ceremony. We were incredibly honored to receive this prestigious award and in Caroline’s words, “That Oasis is able to work in the footsteps of somebody who brought the community together, lifted up the voices of those who did not have the opportunity to be heard, and who spoke so beautifully of inclusivity, is truly inspiring!".
